Phonemos User Guide

Embed diagrams (BPMN, UML, Archimate, Floorplans, Mockups, …)

Phonemos let’s you integrate diagrams directly into pages.

Type / or use the +-toolbar icon to select one of the following diagram types:

  • BPMN diagram

  • CMMN diagram

  • Drawing

BPMN diagram

Use this diagram to design your business processes with the BPMN notation. Our gadget is based on bpmn.io tools, generating potentially executable BPMN XML files that could be used with the Camunda BPMN engine, though in Phonemos, we focus on the documentation purposes.

Please note that this tool enforces BPMN notation strictly. If you want to use design elements in a freestyle fashion, use the Drawing gadget.

CMMN diagram

Use this diagram to design unstructured, unpredictable and knowledge-intensive work where the sequential BPMN process design struggles. It follows an event-driven approach. Our gadget is based on bpmn.io tools.

If you want to use design elements in a freestyle fashion, use the Drawing gadget.

Drawing

The drawing gadget provides you with a general purpose diagramming tool. Our gadget is based on diagrams.net and supports many diagram types

Most Common Diagram Types

  • Flowcharts: Basic process flows, cross-functional flowcharts (swimlanes), and logic trees.

  • UML (Unified Modeling Language): Extensive support for UML 2.5, including Class, Sequence, Use Case, Activity, State Machine, and Deployment diagrams.

  • Business Process (BPMN): Full support for BPMN 2.0, including choreography and collaboration models.

  • Software & Cloud Architecture: Specialized icon sets for AWS, Azure, Google Cloud (GCP), Cisco, IBM, and Kubernetes.

  • Database Design (ERD): Entity Relationship Diagrams using Crow’s Foot notation.

  • Networking: Rack diagrams, network topologies, and cabinet layouts.

Specialized & Industry Notation

  • Engineering: Electrical circuit diagrams, logic gates, and P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation).

  • Project Management: Gantt charts, PERT charts, Kanban boards, and Timelines.

  • Business Logic: DMN (Decision Model and Notation) is supported, but CMMN (Case Management) support is limited (it does not have a dedicated native library like BPMN, though some users import custom CMMN libraries).

  • Architecture & Floorplans: Basic symbols for walls, windows, furniture, and emergency exits.

"Diagrams as Code" Support

You don't always have to drag and drop. Diagrams.net allows you to generate diagrams from:

  • Mermaid: A markdown-like syntax for flowcharts, sequences, and class diagrams.

  • SQL: You can paste SQL code to generate ER diagrams automatically.

  • CSV/Data: Import spreadsheet data to create org charts or process maps.
